Simple Hairstyles for the Nurse on the go

We realize that you’re busy nurses who don’t always have the time necessary to spend on primping. But we also know you want to look and feel good. So we’ve found fast, easy and inexpensive ways to take you out of your ponytail comfort zone without going to beauty queen efforts.

Reinvent the Braid

The technique of braiding hair dates as far back 3500 B.C., according to some beauty historians. And it’s no wonder. A braid is woven hair art that can be as pretty as it is practical. But if you’re looking for a modern twist, check out these two variations on the traditional braid.

Fishtail Braid

The fishtail braid looks intricate, but this simple tutorial takes you through it step by step. Via

Side French Braid

Shorter hair can be pesky, especially at work. This French braid, along the front, works as well for short hairstyles as it does for long. Via Real

Get Effortless Volume

The beauty world has a trade secret that can help a busy nurse feel great about their hair, without adding much time to your before work routine. Re-introducing…hot rollers! You may think of these as a historical artifact, but they’ve made a come back. Many in the movement recommend hot rollers over a curling iron for instant waves to help you create a softer style (even if you’re just throwing it in a pony tail).

‘Ooh … ahh… ‘ Jewelry for Your Hair

A pop of color from a headband, a hint of sparkle in a barrette, a glimmer of jewels from a rhinestone bobby pin. These inexpensive hair accessories brighten you up without any additional time in front of the mirror.

Woven Headbands

This colorful, woven headband is handmade by SawuCreations. Surf around creator Sawu’s shop for headbands that run from one end to the other of the color spectrum.

Rhinestone Bobbies

Who doesn’t love to feel draped in rich gems? These rhinestone bobby pins slide in instantly to bring any simple hairstyle from boring to blam!

Jeweled Barrettes

Secure the front of your hair to the side with a bobby pin or two and dress up with a gorgeous barrette like this one from Etsy shop, MyLavaliere.

What’s your favorite way to keep your hair up and out of the way for patient care, while still feeling great about the way you look?

Hi there Kathleen, The Real Simple hairstyle we refer to from the image above is actually called the “Side French Braid.” The instructions can be found here.

I use cute hairsticks to hold my braid in a bun.. Etsy has so many. My favorites have been from The Lemonade Shop– she adds toppers to hooks, but has made them on sticks for me. They are often a conversation starter… latest pair had Gandalf and Bilbo on them. (A little geeky here )
